Triplanar (Tech Demo)

Triplanar is an experimental project inspired by the spell crafting mechanics from Noita, but transferred into three-dimensional space.

My goal was to preserve the colorful destructibility and versatile interaction with the world through environmental destruction.

⚠️DISCLAIMER: TECHNICAL DEMONSTRATION

Please read before downloading:

This build is a technical prototype (Tech Demo).

  • There is NO full game loop, plot, or ending here.
  • Content is limited to a basic set of levels and enemies.
  • The main goal of this build is to demonstrate physical systems and magic programming mechanics.
  • Bugs, visual glitches, and unstable physics behavior under extreme loads are possible.
  • Performance issues are possible, but on my PC configuration, the game runs with a stable frame rate. (Optimization work will be conducted).

Key Features

  • Programmable Magic: Wands are not just weapons, but a modular framework for building your own spell chain. Use a tree-based slot system, triggers, modifiers, and multicasts to create complex spell chains using (for now) pre-made spell blocks (runes).
  • Deep Physics: The world consists of materials. Wood burns, stone crumbles, ice melts. The blast wave has an honest physical impulse that scatters debris.
  • Thermodynamics: A temperature simulation system. Fire spreads to neighboring objects, heating them to ignition temperature. Freezing makes objects brittle.
  • Procedural Elements: Dungeon generation based on the BSP algorithm and randomization of wand stats.

Controls

  • WASD: Movement
  • Shift: Sprint
  • Space: Jump
  • LMB: Use Wand
  • E / TAB: Open Inventory (Spell Crafting)
  • F: Interact (pick up item)
  • 1 / 2: Switch Wand
  • F1: Debug Menu (Heal, spawn enemies)
  • F2: Photo Mode

Technology Showcase

1. Physics of destruction and interaction

Explosions do not simply deal damage, they physically interact with the environment, creating dozens of debris pieces that retain inertia.

2. Procedural Animation (Slime)

Enemies use procedural animation and shaders to react to damage and movement. The slime compresses when jumping and pulsates.

Plans for the Near Future

  • Adding sounds to all in-game actions
  • Adding custom icons for each of the runes
  • Expanding the rune pool
  • Expanding the enemy pool
  • Optimization
